Minutes of meeting held on Thursday 24th January 2002 In Castletown Drill Hall at 7:30pm. Present J. Crowden, E. Geddes, G. Firth, G. Ewing ( Northern Constabulary), I. Moodie (Village Officer), G. Calder (Press), A. Macdonald ( H. C. Councillor), T. Robinson ( Sports Officer). Apologies A. Hill, I. Calder, M. Cormack, W. Stark, W. Swanson. 2/LAST MINUTES AND MATTERS ARISING FROM THEM The last minutes of the 13th December 2001 were read and agreed as a true record. Doggie Bins- No further progress Action A.M. Putting Green Fence- Being regularly inspected Action G.F, I.M. Footpath Group- Jim Marshall has been asked to give interested parties more notice of meetings. Action G.F. Village Officer Update- Nothing much to report. Still awaiting doggie bins and litter bins. Regarding the missing coping stones, stones had been found which might fit. Action J.C, A.M, M.C. Bathing water Results- Dunnet , Good Pass. Castlehill well behind. 3 spillages of diesel had occurred in the Castlehill area. SEPA had said that the whole problem was caused by domestic heating oil. Action J.C. Village Banking- A Cash Machine will not be installed at the Castletown branch of The Royal Bank. This was confirmed in a letter from Catherine Browning, Area Manager, Personal banking. 3/PROPOSED BASKETBALL SPORTS AREA The two boys who had put forward this idea were not present. After discussion the following proposals were agreed on. George Ewing to go to the school and speak to the youngsters from primary 6 and 7 to see if they are interested in this venture, also about the use of the gymnasium and playground. Areas identified as possible sites:- Ground in Mackay Street; Field behind the Youth Club; Ground behind the Traill Hall. Tina Robinson-Sports Officer, said that it would be easier to obtain funding if a Basketball Club was formed. Action G.E, A.M, J.C. 4/ QUEENS GOLDEN JUBILEE At a public meeting held on 10th January 2002 the following ideas were put forward. Parties, Ceilidh, Gardens, Hanging Baskets, Gateway Entrances, Old Folks Outings, Junior Football- new changing rooms. Again , advice was asked from Sports Officer on obtaining money for the changing rooms, although it was expected to do some work voluntarily. 5/ CORRESPONDENCE Letters received were discussed with nothing to note. Association of Caithness Community Councils AGM to be held in Castletown Drill Hall on Wednesday 30th January 2002. Letter to be written to Mrs. Freda Rapson regarding withdrawal of 15:40 bus between Wick and Castletown. Action J.C. 6/AOCB Concern was expressed for the safety of the Older people during the recent snowy weather. The pavements were treacherous. Grit bin at Olrig Place empty. Request for it to be filled, also for additional bins at Pentland Place, Mackay Street, Castlehill Place. Action A.M. Other items discussed- Funding for Village Officer, New/ Second Hand Mower. Action A.M, G.F, J.C. Being no further business the date of the next meeting was set for Thursday 21st February 2002 at 7:30pm in the Castletown Drill Hall. The meeting closed at 21:45 hrs. |
