Minutes of meeting held on Thursday 16th May 2002

In Castletown Drill Hall at 7:30pm.

2/LAST MINUTES AND MATTERS ARISING FROM THEM

The last minutes of the 18th April 2002 were read and agreed as a true record.

Doggie Bins- request for doggie bins at sand-end-beach side of bridge, School- opposite car park, right hand side of mossy road. Long handled rubbish grippers- no further forward. Watering device for hanging baskets- to be brought up at next Council meeting.

Putting Green Fence- same condition, as yet not on list for new fence.

Footpath Group- nothing to report.

Bathing Water Results- regularly checked.

Withdrawal of Bus Service- reply from Alistair Goodall- cannot take up our offer of advice at the moment. Will keep us in mind, also new time- table end of May.

Morrison's Garage- Scrap Cars and Buses- the removal of the above had still not taken place. Difficulty with transport.

Removal of coil not attended to.

A9 Ord- no reply from Jamie Stone MSP. regarding maintenance.

New Mower- further quotes from Allans of Gillock ranging from £380 to £673. W&A Geddes, £450 plus VAT and £649 plus VAT. It was agreed to look at different mowers before making a decision to purchase.

Tree Fest Scotland 2002- Open day cancelled.

Thurso Town Hall Plan- sketch of proposed plan passed around members.

View Firth Club- no decision has been made on the future of the building although it has been said that part of the building may be demolished.

3/PROPOSED NEW BASKETBALL / SPORTS AREA

Area behind Traill Hall thought to be too small. George Ewing offered to pay a personal visit to Mrs. Grant regarding the ground behind the Youth Club.

4/QUEENS GOLDEN JUBILEE

Plans are well in hand for the Jubilee Day

5/HOUSING NEEDS SURVEY.

Survey has now been delivered, hopefully the response will be good.

6/VILLAGE OFFICERS UPDATE.

Coach Walk a bit tidier. Suggestion made that trees could be left higher. Plantation still full of rubbish. Stanergill Burn- Bridge to Woodside clean up to be held at the beginning of next year. Wall at Betsy's Cottage and Castlehill Avenue not repaired. Money from Council ( Village Officers Remuneration) not received.

7/CLOSURE OF A&E DEPARTMENT AT DUNBAR HOSPITAL.

Letter to be written to Health Forum urging for a speedy resolution to the problems which have arisen.

8/CORRESPONDENCE.

Letters received were discussed and noted as follows:-

Reply from Suzzanne Roberta re questionnaire on bathing water. Is willing to attend a meeting.

PC S for CC s Workshop in Wick Town Hall on Tuesday 18th June.

Northern Constabulary- Incidents 2001- 2002. Funding etc.

Being no further business the date of the next meeting was set for Thursday 13th June 2002 at 7:30pm in the Castletown Drill Hall.

The meeting closed at 21:10 hrs.
