The minutes of the last meeting held on 15th April 2004 were read and agreed as a true record. Website: more information needed. Action D.S. Highland Council Ranger: Mary Legg. A project to improve the look of both the village and the Harbour involving the local community and headed by the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers is in the early planning stages. Action J.C. Dornoch Firth Rail Crossing: Study should take place to take the above forward. Action J.C. Bus Shelters: No further forward. Action A.M. Beach Clean: took place on 25th April 2004. Good response from the public and lots of rubbish collected. Maternity Unit: had re-opened. Awaiting more information. Demonstration will take place outside the Scottish Parliament on 16 and 17 June 2004. Action J.C. Playing fields: now re-opened again. Possible new pieces of equipment being installed. 3/NEIL MACDONALD: ENVIRONMENTAL CONSULTANT. Working for the Highland Access Project to look at Access Development Plans for the Thurso, Castletown and Dunnet Areas. Mr. Donaldson is keen to seek the views and opinions of all interested parties. Funding and maintenance of paths were also discussed as was insurance. 4/PROPOSED NEW BASKETBALL/ SPORTS AREA. All residents in Traill Street living near to the Putting Green are not in favour of the Putting Green being used as a basketball area, one in particular. Points raised were discussed. Size of court, height of fence etc. to be obtained and shown to residents so that they would know what is actually going to happen. Action A.M, D.S. 5/VILLAGE OFFICER UPDATE. Letters to be sent to both B.T. and Scottish Water expressing concern at the way in which they left the areas at West-end and Sand-End after work had been carried out there. Notice Board had been vandalised again. Suggestion was made to move it to the Main Street area where the proposed new access from the Car Park to Main Street is hopefully going to be. Dog fouling again discussed. Village Officer suggested that he could accompany Dog Warden around village and help to catch the culprits. Path from Seaforth Motel to 30 sign – Project to be taken forward by School Parents safer Routes Campaign. Trimming of hedges in the Tansfield area – land owners responsibility. At this point funding for Village officer was discussed. Action A.M, I.M. 6/CASTLEHILL HARBOUR TRUST. Last member of the former Trust had been tracked down to Italy. He is willing to help out and try to form a new Trust. Nothing can be done at the Harbour until new trustees are in place.
