8/STUART BELL – Highland Council Community Waste Manager addressed the meeting.

Committee members were told of budget cuts, staffing levels, different payment conditions, cut in overtime, number of seasonal workers being reduced – all contributing to the staff being unable to carry out the work in a satisfactory condition. Condition of the cemetery was also discussed. Mr Bell denied that the towns were receiving a better service. He said that the Memorial Square in Thurso is classed as a War memorial with a garden and is therefore a high amenity area. Suggested that the village official could perhaps be responsible for Pentland Place, War Memorial and Olrig Place areas. This thought to be good idea, if an agreement could be made with the Council. J Crowden to write to the landowners of the Community Woodland regarding the condition of the path.
