2/ MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING AND MATTERS ARISING FROM THEM:

The minutes of the last meeting held on 29th May 2008 were read and agreed as a true record.

  • Amenity skip- garden waste only. Contact to be made with TEC services later in the year.
  • Request for 20mph zone at the school - contact had been made with the road safety team in Inverness who advised that this scheme is available for school age children and would not be extended to cover playgroups.
  • Picnic tables- benches at harbour area to be repaired; benches at sand-end to be replaced.
  • Metal bin to be placed at the sand-end.
  • Replacement of three bridges at the beach - unfortunately Johnson Controls' offer to repair and replace the bridges cannot go ahead at the moment. The landowner that owns most of the ground, insists on a legal agreement being in place and responsibility for the insurance and maintenance costs to be met by a named organisation. All of this needs time and careful consideration.

3/ VILLAGE OFFICER UPDATES

Grass cutting continues. Levelling of ground with earth from own ground. Three cars belonging to possibly the one owner abandoned at the harbour. Clothes recycling bin constantly overflowing.

4/ POLICE REPORT

No report.

5/ NEW MOWER

No further forward. Village officer funding still not sorted out.

6/ CORRESPONDENCE

Due to a further meeting being held later no correspondence was discussed.

7/ AOCB

  • Royal National Mod - Caithness 2010 Local Committee - £25 donation to be forwarded.
  • Community Council boundaries to remain as they are.
  • Traffic calming measures at all entrances to village needs to be attended to.
  • Cutting back of over hanging trees at Harland Road junction and old church discussed.

Being no further business the date for the next meeting was set for Thursday 28th August 2008 at 7:30pm in the Castletown Drill Hall.

This part of the meeting closed at 20:00hrs.

The members were joined by Ed Taylor - Prince's Foundation, Maria Perks - Prince's Regeneration Trust, Lachie Stewart, Dominic Fairlie - Scotia Homes, Raymond Taylor, Neil MacDonald - Architect.

D. Flear and D. Sutherland left the proceedings.

Following on from the three day Enquiry by Design workshop held last year an update on the progress was given to all present. This included the plans of Scotia Homes to develop some of the old buildings at Castlehill and the proposed housing development on ground by Raymond Taylor. All reports given were detailed and well thought out and would indeed breath new life into the village. Mr. D. Fraser - Chairman thanked the group for their presentation.
