Minutes of June meeting

Minutes of meeting held on Thursday 24th June 2010 in the Castletown Drill Hall at 7:30pm.

2/MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING AND MATTERS ARISING FROM THEM:

The minutes of the last meeting were read and agreed as a true record.

  • Proposed development at Castlehill/Shelley Hill and Castlehill Steading - Scotia Homes will be holding a public event at Castletown Heritage Centre on 25th and 26th June 2010.
  • Area of ground in front of Chinese Restaurant: The ground is owned by the restaurant proprietor and therefore they are responsible for the state of the ground. The same applies to the area of ground in front of the Chip shop. No contact has as yet been made with either owners.
  • Thomson's Shop: Contact has been made with Norscot. The stone is to be recycled but the question is when? It was agreed that the hoarding is in need of attention.

4/POLICE REPORT

John Johnstone gave a short report that included a domestic and an incident at the garage involving a 15 years old. Speed checks were continuing to be carried out and vehicles were being moved on at the shop.

  • SNH - Loch of Durran and River Thurso - Special natural features should be conserved or enhanced.

6/AOCB

Matters discussed:

R. Cox and L. Furniss told all present of their plans to create a Community Woodland in the Plantation. Grants are available but the first course of action would have to be the purchase or lease of the ground and in order to do that contact would have to be made with the landowner. All present supported the venture.
Community Council boundaries are under review. If Keiss Community Council does not reform Dunnet and Canisbay boundary will possibly change and part of Dunnet may join with us. More information later.

Dog fouling again an issue.

Camper van seen parking overnight at the Cemetery. Reported to Council.

Query regarding the erection of a fence at 2 Harland Road that would obscure vision. To be looked at.

Complaint had been made to the Police regarding the overtaking manoeuvres of a BMW car on the Wick road on 3rd June 2010. No follow-up phone call had taken place and the complainant felt rather annoyed.

Being no further business the date for the next meeting was set for Thursday 26th August 2010 at 7.30pm in the Drill Hall Castletown.

The meeting closed at 20:50hrs.
